Script: Philz Coffee
INT. COFFEE SHOP - DAY
A long line at the Starbucks-esque coffee shop--everybody in beige and grey knitwear, extremely put-together and bland, like a Banana Republic catalogue. Tasteful music plays--a woman and a piano, Diana Krall or Regina Spektor.
Our protagonist is wearing a suit, but we can tell it’s a costume. He’s itchy, fidgeting in line, needs some juice.
He glances around. Everybody’s the same. It’s freaking him out.
He looks out the window at the bustling city street.
A woman pulls up on a mustard-yellow moped. She looks around, then into the window of the coffee shop. She’s electric, in a coffee-brown leather jacket with bold, yellow accents and heavy jewelry. Around her neck, a gold chain with a golden coffee bean pendant. She’s a coffee-biker-goth, a little bit Melanie Griffith in Something Wild, a little bit Foxy Brown.
Our boy gawks at her. She smiles, then gestures with a subtle nod of her head. He walks out of the shop.
EXT. THE STREET - SAME
He hops on the back of the moped and wraps his arms around the woman. She lifts the golden coffee bean from her neck and hands it to him. He puts the bean to his nose and takes a healthy whiff. A sound effect tells us: Ahhhhh, smells good.
The moped takes off. The soundtrack is now “Zombie” by Fela Kuti.
EXT. PHILZ STOREFRONT - SOON
The moped pulls up in front of a Philz. The man is now dressed in a red-white-green Italo-Disco tracksuit. Now he’s strutting like a rockstar as he and the coffee goddess enter their kingdom.
INT. PHILZ - SAME
Our two protagonists stand at the long, inviting counter as a coffee artist shakes up their blends.
INT. PHILZ - SAME
They sit down at a table with three other friends, all dressed eclectically, boldly, different cultures and vibes blending together, smiling and drinking coffee.
We see the Philz Logo and tagline
Philz: Don’t Blend In, Blend Out.
